CRO was asked by our colleagues in Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA) to assist with a search for a missing person in and around the Nidd Gorge near Knaresborough. A group of Three Peaks walkers called North Yorkshire Police when one of the group (m, 33) went missing between Whernside summit and Philpin Lane after experiencing some difficulties. A team vehicle checked Philpin Lane up to the Hill Inn but failed to locate the missing walker. CRO team members, already on scene for Incident 47, were redeployed to search paths and ridges that the missing walker could have taken. …
A Three Peaks walker (f, 52) experienced severe pain in her left leg while descending the rocky path from Whernside summit, eventually becoming unable to continue. Her party called North Yorkshire Police, who asked CRO to attend. Team members ascended to the casualty’s location where a team doctor assessed her. A climber (m, 75) walked up to the Giggleswick Scar (North) crag, but collapsed immediately on arrival. Despite the best efforts of his companions at CPR, then the protracted efforts of YAS paramedics, he could not be revived. With police formalities completed, team members stretchered the deceased down to an ambulance. FATAL Volunteer hours: 21
