Cumbria Police requested CRO’s assistance for two young hillwalkers, in separate parties at different locations but part of the same large group, who were going in and out of consciousness. Initial information was limited but placed both parties on the Deepdale side of Whernside. A climber (m, 30) slipped and fell near the top of a climb, sustaining a serious injury to his right lower leg. His belayer lowered him back to the ground and called for assistance. Team members attended, assessed the casualty, splinted his leg, and then strapped him onto a Bell stretcher (a heavy-duty stretcher with skids underneath). CRO was asked by our colleagues in Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA) to assist with a search for a missing person in and around the Nidd Gorge near Knaresborough. A team from CRO attended and joined several other mountain rescue teams in searching areas of potential interest, but the missing person was not located. Volunteer hours: 47
