While taking his human for a Boxing Day walk on the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail, Meatball, an Irish Wheaten Terrier, fell about 10m into the river just upstream of Pecca Bridge. Although uninjured, he could not regain the path, so scrabbled out onto a slippery, sloping ledge in a distressed state. Along with representatives of all the other MRTs operating across the County, CRO’s ‘Silver’ reps were alerted to a flooding forecast (‘Storm Christoph’) through the North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum. Heavy rain, overnight, caused widespread flooding across northern England. With a serious situation seeming to develop in Nidderdale, Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association asked the other North Yorkshire teams what swift-water rescue resources they had available and put them on ‘stand-by’. INCIDENT 83/2019 – Sep 28th. Sat. 14.36hrs – Near Pecca Falls, Ingleton, North Yorkshire – Water Incident

Following a number of 999 calls, reporting ‘a body in the river’, just below Pecca Falls, personnel from CRO (including the Swiftwater Team), North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service, Yorkshire Ambulance Service and Yorkshire Air Ambulance all headed in that direction, only to find that the body was that of a sheep, washed down by the overnight and early morning rain.  All were stood down.
