A farmer had seen one of his sheep, apparently stranded on a ledge of Mealbank Quarry, on Sunday. He kept trying to tempt her back to safety by shaking a bag of sheep nuts, but eventually asked for CRO’s assistance. A small team set up an abseil and one member descended. A sheep was reported to be seriously injured at Gordale Scar, between the two waterfalls. Investigation by a team member found it to be one of this year’s lambs with a wound, but no obvious fractures. It was lowered gently down to other members, waiting at the foot of the waterfall climb, and taken to Gordale House for attention by the farmer. Volunteer hours 14.

A walker, who had strayed unintentionally from the path, discovered a lamb stuck in mud ‘in a big hole in the ground’ on her descent over Southerscales Fell. She tried to pull it out herself but it was stuck too firmly so she called North Yorkshire Police.
