INCIDENT 73/2019 – Aug 20th. Tue. 15.13hrs – Pennine Bridleway, nr Langscar, Malham, North Yorkshire – Mountain Rescue

Two mountain bikers (m, 37; m, 34) hit a large rock, almost simultaneously, and were unseated near the westernmost point of the Settle Loop of the Pennine Bridleway. One appeared to have a shoulder injury and the other was confused after a blow to the head. A mountain biker (m, 60) hit a patch of ice while descending towards Helwith Bridge on an evening ride. He was catapulted from his cycle and dislocated a shoulder. Team members administered analgesics and immobilised the injury, before helping him into a team vehicle and driving him to meet a YAS road ambulance, down at the road-head. Incident 47/2018 – Jul. 25th Wed 15.16 Malham Moor, North Yorkshire – Mountain Rescue

A mountain biker (f, 70) hit a rock on the bridleway from Tennant Gill to Henside and was pitched forward, over her bicycle handlebars, fracturing both of the bones to one wrist. Once her arm was immobilised, during which process the patient steadfastly refused any pain relief (She just gritted her teeth and said ‘Get on with it!’.), she was helped to her feet and supported for the quarter-mile walk…

Incident 84/2017 – Oct. 28th Sat. 12.01 – Westhouse area, North Yorkshire – Mountain Rescue.

As the news arrived that the party on Ingleborough were now descending, a call was received from Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) to a report of a cyclist with a head injury, and possibly now unconscious, ‘somewhere on a path’ in the Westhouse area, near Ingleton.
