NYF&RS asked for assistance in rescuing a large lamb which had fallen perhaps 9 or 10 metres from the top of Catrigg Foss and was stranded on a ledge between the upper and lower waterfalls. A member of the public reported having seen a lamb stuck down a pothole on Newby Moss and provided a grid reference for the location. A small team of CRO members undertook a quick search of the general area and located the lamb, marooned down Fluted Hole. A caver advised CRO, by a roundabout route, that he had found a sheep trapped in a gryke at Middle Scar near Ribblehead. The local CRO controller joined him and, together, they hoisted the animal onto the surface, unharmed.
