INCIDENT 05/2022 – JANUARY 30th SUN. 20.30 PETERSON POT / PIPPIKIN POT, LECK, LANCASHIRE – CAVE INCIDENT

Three cavers (m,22; f,21; m,21) were reported overdue on a Peterson Pot to Pippikin Pot through trip (with Mistral Hole as an alternative early exit, if short of time). INCIDENT 04/2022 – JANUARY 18th TUE. 16.01  BOTTOM WOOD, ROEBURNDALE, LANCASHIRE – LOCAL INCIDENT

One side of a bridge sagged under the weight of an ATV and trailer carrying a number of people* across it. The bridge deck twisted and the ATV and trailer slid sideways, falling about three metres into the watercourse at Bottom Wood, Roeburndale. INCIDENT 03/2022 – JANUARY 9th SUN. 19.10  COMB HILL, MALHAM MOOR, NORTH YORKSHIRE – MOUNTAIN INCIDENT

A competitor (m, 44) in the Spine Challenger ultra-marathon event (along the Pennine Way from Edale to Hawes, in one go) collapsed at Comb Hill, just above the head of Watlowes (a.k.a. ‘The Dry Valley’), North of Malham. Goodbye 2021!

Better a couple of days late than not at all, here is an instant summary of 2021. A full and illustrated account of CRO’s year will appear in Rescue 2022, to be published in March.  We shall also be running a new safety campaign in the Spring, so ‘Watch this space!’. With 89 incidents (4 fatal) and 11 ‘alerts’ (Call received, but resolved without outdoor action.), 2021 was a reasonably ‘normal’…
