A caver at a pot-hole club hostel reported that eight overseas cavers were three hours overdue on a trip into Shuttleworth Pot, beneath Leck Fell. As a precaution, the parking areas on Leck Fell Lane and at Bull Pot Farm were checked, with no unexplained cars discovered. The entrance to the Pot was also checked, without result, so team members who had been asked to stand by, at home, were stood down. Later in the evening, the ‘missing’ cavers returned safely to their hostel, presumably unaware of the implications of chalking up times on the board there. They telephoned the duty controller and were suitably apologetic.
