INCIDENT 55/2022 19th TUE. 19.37 THREE PEAKS, NORTH YORKSHIRE – MOUNTAIN INCIDENT

A 70 year old walker was reported overdue and missing by his companions. He had set off from Chapel-le-Dale at 6.30am, on what was the hottest day of the year so far, to walk the three peaks route starting with an ascent of Ingleborough. He was last seen at 10.45am by the old school in Horton-in-Ribblesdale where he had stopped to rest and eat. His companions’ attempts to contact him by mobile phone during the day had been unsuccessful. When the cut-off time for his return to his lodgings passed, the walker’s companions raised the alarm and CRO were called upon to look for him. The expected continuation of his route was to ascend Pen-y-ghent and then Whernside before descending back to Chapel-le Dale. CRO split into five search teams so that we could simultaneously check the approaches and descents of both hills. We located him, safe and well, at 10.15pm high up on Whernside. CRO team members accompanied him back down to his lodgings.
