A walker was reported to be having difficulty with his dog, which was described as ‘panicking’, near the top of the lower fall in Gordale Scar. When the duty controller phoned the reporting person, he was told that other walkers had helped the walker and dog up to safety. CRO’s assistance was not needed. Volunteer hours: 0.25
INCIDENT 66/2021 – AUGUST 22nd SUN. 13.45 – Top of CATRIGG FORCE, STAINFORTH, NORTH YORKSHIRE – MOUNTAIN INCIDENT
A walker (m, 80) collapsed near the top of Catrigg Force waterfall. After a thorough assessment by a CRO casualty care trainer he was helped into an insulated casualty bag on a stretcher and carried to a team vehicle. This took him to Settle Ambulance Station where he and several team members waited for an ambulance which would take him to hospital. Volunteer hours: 18
INCIDENT 65/2021 – AUGUST 20th FRI. 10.06 – MEALBANK QUARRY, INGLETON, NORTH YORKSHIRE – ANIMAL INCIDENT
A farmer had seen one of his sheep, apparently stranded on a ledge of Mealbank Quarry, on Sunday. He kept trying to tempt her back to safety by shaking a bag of sheep nuts, but eventually asked for CRO’s assistance. A small team set up an abseil and one member descended. His arrival on her ledge was sufficient motivation for the sheep to overcome any acrophobia and she scrambled safely…
