A caller was concerned when two walkers didn’t return at the scheduled time from attempting the 3 Yorkshire Peaks walk. The last contact with the walkers said they were ‘lost’ and at least 2 hours from their car. Initial attempts to locate the walkers using the ‘Phonefind’ facility did not work, so a team member set off for Horton in Ribblesdale (the usual starting point for the 3 Peaks walk)…

An anxious relative reported a group of 10 Three Peaks walkers overdue. As it was a large group, with a guide, the duty controller advised that they be given more time and checked, from time to time, whether they had returned. 4 Three Peaks walkers (m:23,22,17, f:21) reported themselves lost descending Ingleborough towards Horton, in poor weather conditions (snow and strong winds). A team of 7 members using CRO2 located the walkers near a gate on the track from Sulber Nick to Borrins. Two three-peaks walkers (m, 24; f, 24) reported themselves benighted on the summit of Ingleborough, inadequately clad and shod, with no spare kit or food and only mobile phones for navigation and lighting.
