As the day-long search around Incident 38 was continuing, we received our third call of the day – to the third of our famous Yorkshire 3 Peaks! This time we were alerted by North Yorkshire Police (NYP) to a walker (F, 30) who had slipped whilst descending the stepped path from the summit of Whernside to Bruntscar. She had suffered a painful lower leg injury and was unable to continue down. Members who could be released from the search, and others who were now available went to the scene. The injured walker was assessed, and treated at the scene and then sledged down in a stretcher to waiting team vehicles at the foot of the slope. She was subsequently transferred to the care of Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) paramedics who were waiting at the road and, after their assessment, was allowed to travel home with her family for treatment locally. We wish her a speedy recovery.
Members from this incident and the protracted search, which had now concluded happily, met back at base to clear up and go home after what had been a very long day. A total of almost 200 hours of voluntary service was given by our members.
