INCIDENT 39/2024. JUNE 1st SAT 1600. PEN Y GHENT, HORTON IN RIBBLESDALE, NORTH YORKSHIRE

Whilst the majority of the team were engaged with the previous incident, a small number of members were providing safety cover at a local annual fell race in Horton. These members were alerted by the Race Control to a runner who had become injured on the descent from the summit of Pen y Ghent. Vehicles and members were despatched to the site to offer assistance. On arrival they found two injured runners (both F, 23 & 35) one of whom had twisted her ankle badly and was unable to continue; the other was carrying an existing knee injury which had worsened and she had stopped to offer assistance to the first runner and subsequently, wisely, decided not to carry on her own race. Both were assessed at the scene by our members and then transported back to the fell race base in Horton. We wish them both a speedy recovery and a rapid return to running.
