The farmer left it, hoping it would self-rescue when it became hungry, but there seemed to be enough grazing to keep it going. After three days, he called CRO via North Yorkshire Police. A golden retriever was reported to have fallen down a 20′ pot-hole by the path between Bar Pot and Gaping Gill. Two members drove up in the Honda Pioneer, scrambled down the 3m rift and recovered the dog, unharmed. Other members who had been driving up to Trow Gill in a team Land Rover were stood down. A group of walkers told the farmer at Newby Cote that they had ‘heard a lamb stuck down Fife Pot and it sounded to be in distress.’. A farmer called North Yorkshire Police, requesting CRO’s help, when a sheep became stranded on a limestone outcrop, about 8m from the ground at Feizor Nick.
