INCIDENT 61/2023 JUL. 21st FRI. 10:39 SWAN BUTTRESS, GIGGLESWICK SCAR SOUTH, GIGGLESWICK, NORTH YORKSHIRE – MOUNTAIN INCIDENT

A climber (m, 30) slipped and fell near the top of a climb, sustaining a serious injury to his right lower leg.  His belayer lowered him back to the ground and called for assistance.  Team members attended, assessed the casualty, splinted his leg, and then strapped him onto a Bell stretcher (a heavy-duty stretcher with skids underneath).  The casualty was then lowered down the high-angle slope to the road below the crag using a twin rope system for safety.  Once there, he was turned over to our colleagues at Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Yorkshire Ambulance Service for further assessment and onward transportation to hospital.
