A walker (m, 30) fell a reported 10m including ‘three somersaults’ while climbing the final rock band at the south end of Pen y ghent, losing consciousness for approximately 30 minutes. His companion and other walkers helped keep him warm until team members arrived. They assessed the casualty and immobilised him in a vacuum mattress before putting him into an insulated casualty bag and on to a Bell stretcher. The only apparent injury was a slight laceration to the head. Meanwhile the YAA air ambulance landed on the plateau between the two rock bands. After further assessment by its YAS paramedics, the casualty was carried and wheeled down to the helicopter for the flight to hospital.
