INCIDENT 13/2024. MARCH 22nd FRI 19.30. NR INGLEBOROUGH SUMMIT, CHAPEL-LE-DALE, NORTH YORKSHIRE

The Team were alerted by North Yorkshire Police with information that two walkers (F, 35 and 37) were stuck on the summit of Ingleborough in bad weather conditions. Having established that the two were close to the Swine Tail path near the summit plateau, they were advised to remain where they were whilst team members were mobilised to them. Hasty teams were sent on foot from both Crina Bottom and Chapel Le Dale to locate the missing hikers. Due to very wet ground conditions lower on the hill it was difficult to get vehicles close to their position. The walkers were located, cold but otherwise uninjured. They had inadvertently gone off the path onto steep ground in poor visibility and strong winds and, wisely, had stayed put until we found them. Once rewarmed the two were walked off the summit by team members to a team vehicle at Crina Bottom. They were subsequently returned to their vehicle at Horton.
