INCIDENT 52 / 2025 JUNE 14th SAT 16.27hrs. KINGSDALE, NORTH YORKSHIRE

Whilst busy with the previous 2 incidents, the Team received a call from North Yorkshire Police concerning a lone walker (F, age not known) who had become separated from her group whilst doing the 3 Peaks Walk. She had apparently descended into the wrong valley from Whernside,  and had become lost. Whilst making enquiries we were able to ascertain that she had called at a farmhouse in Kingsdale where she had been able to shelter and make calls. As we were already in the area it was decided we would meet to her to offer assistance, and members were diverted to her location upon completing the incident near Dent. Prior to our arrival we were informed that the farmer who had taken her in had very kindly offered to drive her round to Chapel Le Dale, some distance away,  to reunite her with her party. We are very grateful to the farmer for his public spirited gesture.

This incident could have resulted in a very different outcome. If you are in a group, stay together and don’t become separated. Always carry a map and compass, and know how to use them. This incident shows how, even on the most popular walks, it is easy to get disorientated in poor weather. Know where you are,  know where you are going,  and where you have come from. Stay safe and have fun.
