INCIDENT 7/2024 (same day). 22.44 LANCASTER HOLE to WRETCHED RABBIT, CASTERTON, CUMBRIA – CAVE INCIDENT

Four cavers were reported overdue on a through trip from Lancaster Hole to Wretched Rabbit, beneath Casterton Fell, having set off at noon. Four members of the Red Rose C&PC, resident at Bull Pot Farm, went to Wretched Rabbit and began searching from that end of the visiting cavers’ anticipated route. Having found no-one, so far, two of the RRCP&PC returned to Bull Pot Farm to report. The CRO duty controller initiated a full team call-out at at 01.44. On arriving at Lancaster Hole, team members found that the visiting cavers had been guided to the bottom of that pitch by RRC&PC. While three were able to make their own way up the 36m pitch, the fourth needed a haul up and out. All returned safely to Bull Pot Farm.
Our thanks to the Red Rose for their hospitality and their underground efforts.
