INCIDENT 67/2021 – AUGUST 26th THUR. 21.32 – INGLEBOROUGH, NORTH YORKSHIRE – MOUNTAIN INCIDENT

A family of six (2 adults & 4 children) had reached the summit of Ingleborough and intended to follow the path to Horton in Ribblesdale to complete their three peaks walk. They reported themselves lost after darkness came. Their call for help went via a mobile phone mast in Lancashire and the police were able to calculate an approximate location for the party; suggesting that they were on the south west side of Ingleborough. CRO team leaders were able to contact the family by phone and were only able to ascertain that the family had the wind on their backs and could see the light glow of what appeared to be a large village ahead of them. Two CRO search teams were sent out and quickly located the family on the path from the summit down to Ingleton. They were cold, but otherwise safe and well. The family were escorted on foot to the track near to Crina Bottom and then off the hill in a CRO Landrover. As it was quite late, they were also given a lift back to their car in Horton.
