Having just about tidied up from the previous incident, the team were again called out, this time by North Yorkshire Police to a walker (F, 19) who had slipped whilst walking on the Top of South House Moor, near Simon Fell above Selside. She had sustained a painful ankle injury and was unable to continue walking. The location is relatively inaccessible for vehicles, and required a number of team members to walk to the scene from some distance below the casualty location. On arrival of team members the casualty was assessed and treated. Due to the fast approaching dark, cold weather and the prospect of a long and difficult stretcher descent from the summit Yorkshire Ambulance Service had requested the assistance of HM Coastguard. A Coastguard helicopter was thankfully available and despatched from North Wales. They were on scene relatively quickly and were able to speedily extract the casualty and her family down to a waiting ambulance in Horton. The casualty was taken to hospital and team members walked down from the hill after a long day!
We are grateful to HM Coastguard for their invaluable assistance at this incident.
