INCIDENT 11/2026. FEBRUARY 23rd MONDAY 12.58hrs. WARRENDALE KNOTTS, SETTLE, NORTH YORKSHIRE

The Team were alerted by North Yorkshire Police to assist a local farmer with a pregnant sheep stuck on a ledge, on a small crag on the west side of Warrendale Knotts above Settle. The sheep had apparently been there a few days and had not self rescued. Following a reccy of the site with the farmer it was agreed we would attend the following morning to help the animal.

On Tuesday morning, accompanied by the farmer, a small team of members attended the site. Once a safe system of work had been set up, members were able to descend the crag and encourage the animal to extract itself from the ledge.  It returned, safely, to the fell side where it resumed its’ normal life, none the worse for its’ ordeal.

We are always happy to assist our local farming community, who in turn provide us with assistance and access where necessary for other incidents.
