A paraglider pilot (m, 54) launched from the summit ridge of Whernside, but immediately landed heavily, 200m down-slope, injuring his right ankle. As the first CRO members scaled the hill, the North West Air Ambulance landed on the ridge. Paramedics scrambled down and packaged the patient before team members, assisted by passers-by, carried patient and team stretcher up to the aircraft. This flew to Royal Lancaster Infirmary and the team members descended to the Land Rovers and YAS ambulance crew waiting near Bruntscar Farm.
