INCIDENT 02/2022 – JANUARY 2nd SUN. 18.21  PEN-Y-GHENT, NORTH YORKSHIRE – MOUNTAIN INCIDENT

A walker reported himself as having being lost and cold, for over an hours duration, in darkness, somewhere on Pen-y-Ghent. Although he was unsure of his location, the walker had been able to respond to a “phone find” text message which enabled CRO to see that his likely position was midway between Plover Hill and the summit of Pen-y-Ghent. Four CRO members quickly ascended the lane from Horton-in-Ribblesdale, towards Hull Pot, in a team vehicle and then proceeded on foot to the summit ridge. The benighted walker was quickly found. The walker was escorted back to Horton-in-Ribblesdale and CRO team members were able to offer him advice on how he might have avoided the incident by being better prepared for a day on the hill in the month of January.
