INCIDENT 23/2026. APRIL 8th WEDNESDAY 13.22hrs. INGLEBOROUGH, INGLETON, NORTH YORKSHIRE

We were alerted by North Yorkshire Police to an incident on Ingleborough, close to the summit plateau, involving a paraglider who had crashed onto rocks causing leg injuries. As our members were already ‘on the road’ returning from the previous incident we were able to very quickly divert to the scene. Other Team members were also called out. After driving up Fell Lane from Ingleton members proceeded on foot and ATV as far up the hillside as possible, with a final ascent on foot. On arrival it was found that the pilot (M, 27) had sustained an ankle and foot injury but appeared to be, thankfully, otherwise unhurt. Due to the nature of the incident, a helicopter from our partners at Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) had been despatched from its’ base on Teeside to assist. The casualty was splinted, and placed in a stretcher, and then carried the short distance up to the summit plateau where he was transferred to the helicopter. He was subsequently flown down into Ingleton where he was transferred to the Yorkshire Ambulance Service for the trip to Lancaster Royal Hospital for assessment and treatment. We wish him well for his recovery.
