An aspirant Three Peaks walker (f, 23) was reported to be uninjured but ‘fatigued, unable to make it back down’, three quarters of a mile from the summit of Whernside on the North side. The reporting person, having been advised of the party’s options by the duty controller, agreed to set off to walk the casualty down, even if in short stages, to the Blea Moor aqueduct. Two local team members set off to meet the group, one on foot, the other on a mountain bike, while two others drove a team Land Rover to the aqueduct, arriving at the same time as the relieved and now cheerful trio of walkers. They were driven to Ribblehead, then given a lift back to their car, in Horton, by one of the local team members.
Footnote: The trio had set off from Horton at 07.00 and had walked over Pen y ghent en route to Whernside.
