INCIDENT 61/2021 – AUGUST 7th SAT. 19.04 – SIMON FELL (INGLEBOROUGH), CLAPHAM, NORTH YORKSHIRE – MOUNTAIN INCIDENT

Three walkers (m, 20, 20, 18) reported themselves lost in thick mist, heavy rain and strong wind while attempting to walk the Three Peaks. NYP were able to provide a grid reference which placed them on Simon Fell, to the NE of Ingleborough. Having called out team members to go to Chapel le dale, the Duty Controller was able, eventually, to speak to one of the ‘mispers’ and give directions to begin the descent towards Chapel le dale. Meanwhile, with most members held at the road-head, a small group took CRO 4, the team’s Honda Pioneer (‘side by side ATV’), up to High Lot to meet the walkers and return them to their car at Chapel le dale.

Footnote:  Before setting out, walkers (and others active in the outdoors) are advised to check that they meet the criteria at www.adventuresmart.uk. It seems that the group had walked from Chapel le dale, over Ingleborough, then Pen y ghent before climbing on to Simon Fell, believing it to be Whernside.
