INCIDENT 42/2019 – Jun. 1st. Sat. 15.52hrs – County Pot, Easegill, Cumbria – Cave Incident

Whilst incident 41 was ongoing, another call was received to a report of a caver (F,36) who had fallen down a 6m pitch whilst derigging it, and sustained a nasty injury to her right ankle. As a result of the manpower required at the other incident, CRO team members were supported by our own cavers list as well as other teams and pothole club members, to ensure that we were able to respond rapidly to assist.

The casualty was treated and her injury splinted before she was assisted to the surface. Once on the surface, the casualty was assessed by paramedics from North West Ambulance Service. Due to the location of the incident, and the nature of the injury, we requested assistance from Maritime and Coastguard Agency Helicopter Rescue 912, who winched aboard the casualty for transfer to hospital in Blackpool. Once this incident was cleared, many of those involved proceeded to join their colleagues at Fountains Fell to assist with Incident 41.

Other teams involved: Calder Valley SRT, Upper Wharfedale FRA, Cumbria Mines Rescue (COMRU), Red Rose Pothole Club.
