A dog-walker (f, 50) slipped on ice on the riverside path at the bottom of Storrs Common, suspecting that she had broken an ankle. (After a very slight thaw, the path had a thin covering of water on the ice, making it even more hazardous.) A YAS ambulance crew were first on scene and began assessing the casualty. After being given pain relief and her ankle splinted, the walker was helped into an insulated casualty bag and lifted onto a stretcher. Team members carried her to the road ambulance, parked on Thacking Lane. An air ambulance had been deployed, but was stood down.
