A member of the public reported a sheep stuck on a ledge in a disused quarry near Ingleton. The team gave the sheep an opportunity to self-rescue. When it did not do so, team members attended and, having discussed the situation with the farmer, set up a rope rescue system. One team member abseiled down to the sheep and persuaded it into a Specialised Aerial Carrying Kit™. Other team members then hauled the sheep up and returned it, unharmed, to the farmer for return to its flock.
Animal rescues at height are always high risk for the animal because it may not understand that the team is there to help, try to get away, and end up falling. For that reason, the team will usually wait at least 24 hours to give the animal an opportunity to self-rescue.
