The team were called by North Yorkshire Police to a camper (f,28) who had walked up towards Gaping Gill, with the intention of sleeping out overnight before attending the winch meet in the morning, but had lost her way in the poor weather and was unable to get herself off the hill or find anywhere suitable to camp for the night.
A small team drove CRO 1 up to Trow Gill and then proceeded up the hill on foot. They were able to locate the lost camper and, after giving her a quick check over, led her back to the camp at Gaping Gill where they assisted her to pitch her tent and made the Craven Pothole Club Winch Meet aware of her presence.
We hope she enjoyed her trip down Gaping Gill in the morning!
Volunteer hours: 18
Note: This camper was well equipped with a spare light and tent but got caught out by the poor weather conditions making her unable to find somewhere safe to camp. She did the right thing by calling us so we could point her in the right direction rather than have a more serious call later in the night.
