A walker (m, 58) beginning the descent from Little Ingleborough to Gaping Gill tripped on a protruding rock. In falling forward with arms outstretched, he suffered a suspected shoulder dislocation. The walking group leader rang 999, asked for ‘police’, then ‘mountain rescue’ and gave an accurate ten-figure grid reference. He offered mild pain relief and fastened the injured arm in the least painful position before the group continued gently towards Gaping Gill. A little short of there, they were met by rescue team members in CRO 4, the Honda Pioneer. This took the injured walker via Newby Cote to CRO Base, in Clapham, where a YAS road ambulance had just arrived. Other team members, who had gone up to Trow Gill by Land Rover in case further help was needed, were recalled and were able to offer some members of the delayed walking group a lift back to their coach, in Clapham.
