NEW, SIMPLE, SAFETY ADVICE VIDEOS FOR DALES VISITORS

As readers of the CRO annual incident report, Rescue ’22, may recall, some of our members have been working with colleagues from the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association and volunteers from Mosaic (the organisation which aims to connect people from diverse communities with the outdoors) to produce a series of simple, short (max 2 minutes each) safety videos to be posted on YouTube. These can now be found on Mosaic’s YouTube channel: https://tinyurl.com/2du5suer  and the link will soon be added to the safety section of this site.

People featured in the videos suggest that anyone going walking (etc) in the Dales should first ask themselves three basic questions – ‘Do I have the right gear?’, ‘Do I have the right skills and knowledge?’ and ‘Do I know what the weather is going to be like?’. They go on to suggest what kit to carry for our very variable weather conditions and then advise on how to call for help, in the event of an accident or other incident away from a tarmac road.

The three charities are grateful to the North Yorkshire Police, Fire & Crime Commissioner, whose Community Fund grant made this project possible.

The charities are also keen to raise awareness of the videos among people from communities across the North of England, where most of our visitors come from, so if you use Facebook, please go to our Facebook page @CaveRescueOrganisation and share the item with your own social networks. If you do, thank you very much and ‘stay safe’.
