The team were called by North Yorkshire Police to a caver (m, 43) who was struggling to exit the Gaping Gill system via Bar Pot. A small hasty party of three cavers set off in CRO 4, our Honda Pioneer ATV, to make an initial assessment of the situation and take some warming kit for the rest of the party who were on the surface, whilst CRO 1 followed up with more equipment and personnel. On arrival at the cave entrance the team found that the stuck caver was in good spirits and was able to make his own way back down the pitch. Whilst more team cavers waited on standby at the depot in case the rescue became more complicated, the party up at Bar Pot rigged an alternative entrance to the system, Small Mammal Pot, from where they were able to make contact with the previously stuck caver and lead him out. The group were then brought back to the depot in Clapham for a warm drink and mince pie, before being dropped off back at their vehicle.
