INCIDENT 79/2025. SEPTEMBER 20th SAT. 13.38 hrs WHERNSIDE, INGLETON, NORTH YORKSHIRE.

A Three Peaks walker (m, 31), with a pre-existing medical condition, had a series of dizzy spells before apparently fainting, then going in and out of consciousness, ‘three quarters of the way up Whernside’ (although the initial grid reference suggested Gayle Moor, near Newby Head).  Another walker provided a shelter and called for help. Most team members met at Ribblehead and were transferred to the Blea Moor aqueduct in team Land Rovers, while one went to the Three Peaks descent path to seek other walkers’ help in identifying the casualty’s location. With the location identified, the casualty was assessed then placed in an insulated bag, onto a Bell stretcher, carried over the ridge and sledged down the hill into the head of Kingsdale to be handed into the care of the relocated YAS ambulance crew. This was a shorter, simpler descent than that down the Chapel le dale side of the hill, with the added advantage of not ‘tangling’ with the large number of other walkers but was just as wet and windy
