The team were contacted by Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) to assist with a casualty (M, 45YO) with a lower leg injury which he had sustained on the footpath above Goredale Scar heading towards Malham Tarn. A full team call out was initiated and CRO1 & CRO3 were dispatched to scene. The vehicles met up with a YAS Double Crewed Ambulance (DCA) and also one of our colleagues from North Yorkshire Police. We then transported the YAS paramedics off-road to the casualty site where they commenced their treatment of the casualty by providing pain relief before reducing and splinting what was a pretty badly broken ankle . After the initial treatment was completed, CRO team members packaged the casualty and transferred him into CRO3 in order to get him back onto the road head and the awaiting DCA, for further treatment before being transported onwards to hospital.
This was a great example of multi agency working, not only between CRO, YAS and NYP, but also the fellow walkers who stopped and assisted the casualty before we were on scene, they genuinely did make someone’s bad day a little bit better – thank you.
As always, we wish the casualty our best, and hope to see him back on the hill at some point soon.
