YAS called CRO when a European visitor (f, 36) was reported to be experiencing chest pains, ‘a mile North of Gearstones on the Dales Way’. Telephone communication difficulties led to a lack of further information, so the team began organising to search from Winshaw, High Gayle and the Dentdale road at Stoops Moss. The Stoops Moss group had gone little more than 20 metres from the road when they met the casualty and her companion together with a taxi driver, who had parked at the road-head to take them down Dentdale to their night’s accommodation. After a thorough examination by the YAS paramedic and advice for the night / following day, should there be a problem, the pair were given a lift to their accommodation by a team member.
Volunteer hours: 30
Footnote: The walkers were on their third day of walking the Dales Way and had walked from Upper Wharfedale, that day. The day was beautifully hot and sunny, but the walker who was unwell had had but a piece of flapjack and a litre of water, since breakfast.
