INCIDENT 33/2022 MAY 15th SUN. 13.39 BANK OF THE RIVER WENNING, WENNINGTON, LANCASHIRE – LOCAL INCIDENT

A local volunteer (m, 68) slipped while removing ivy from a tree on the river bank near Wennington Bridge, tumbling/sliding 5 or 6m down the steep bank and landing at the river’s edge. When team members arrived, Lancashire F&RS water rescue technicians were supporting the casualty and he was being assessed by the doctor from the Great North Air Ambulance. Two of CRO’s own technicians positioned the casualty in a vacuum mattress (‘full-body ‘splint’) and all lifted the casualty onto a team stretcher which was then hauled up the bank by sliding it up the F&RS’s rigid ladders, before being carried to the helicopter for the flight to hospital. Excellent co-operation between the different agencies. Lancs F&RS, N Yorks F&RS, NWAS, GNAA and CRO all present.
