INCIDENT 10/2025. JAN 13th MON. 1456hrs. CAM HIGH ROAD, WIDDALE, NORTH YORKSHIRE

The team were asked by North Yorkshire Police (NYP) to assist a Safety Team on the Montane Spine Race with a runner who had sustained a lower back injury and required evacuation from an isolated location on the course, above Hawes. The location was actually at the confluence of the areas of the 3 local Rescue Teams. Our full team were alerted, but a discussion with team leaders in the other 2 teams took place and it was agreed that colleagues from Swaledale MRT (who were en route to another incident in the area) would collect the runner. Our team were stood down. We are grateful to our colleagues in Swaledale and Upper Wharfedale (UWFRA) for their assistance.

Note: initial treatment, and support for the casualty to help her back to the Spine Safety Team was carried out by one of our own team members, who was herself taking part in the race, and had been running for almost 60 hours herself at the time. Her selfless action helped the casualty to reach safety quickly and reflects the best of our outdoor community in action.

Volunteer hours – 4 (plus 2.25 for initial help by member on hill).
