A walker, who had strayed unintentionally from the path, discovered a lamb stuck in mud ‘in a big hole in the ground’ on her descent over Southerscales Fell. She tried to pull it out herself but it was stuck too firmly so she called North Yorkshire Police. As the duty controller was organising a small team to rescue the lamb, staff at the Force Control Room stood the team down, having established who the farmer was likely to be. He agreed to go rescue his sheep, so no action was required of CRO.
