A number of Team members were assisting with a local fell race on Pen y Ghent, near Horton in Ribblesdale. This is an annual event for our local fell running community, at which we are always pleased to help. The race had largely gone well but unfortunately one of the competitors (M, 51) was taken seriously ill and collapsed near to the finish line. Team Members, assisted by event medics and a local doctor, were rapidly on scene and gave immediate first aid. Fortunately after some treatment and a short time the man began to recover. Paramedics from Yorkshire Ambulance Service and the Helimed team from Yorkshire Air Ambulance were also quickly on scene. Following treatment and assessment the runner was conveyed by helicopter to Airedale General Hospital for further assessment and treatment. We wish him a speedy recovery. Many thanks to all at the event who assisted.
