INCIDENT 62/2020 – Sep. 5th Sat. 20.55hrs – Southerscales Fell, Ingleborough – Mountain Incident

Two Three Peaks walkers (f, 36; f, 47) became detached from their five companions after climbing the temporary path diversion towards Ingleborough. They were reported as lost and with limited lighting. Having ascertained their position, using PhoneFind, the duty controller advised them to descend along a wall-side and sent two team members up to meet them. Two Three Peaks walkers (m,30; m,30) reported themselves ‘in a field and completely lost’, as well as ‘surrounded by swamp up to their knees’, between Birkwith and Pen y ghent. Four Three Peaks walkers (m, 18, 19, 20, 26) reported themselves benighted at the summit shelter on Ingleborough and unable to find their way off, but otherwise unharmed.  One member ran up onto the hill from Newby Cote, while others set off, by team Land Rover, to go to Crina Bottom with the intention of walking up and meeting the one team member and the lost party.
