Incident 20/2016 – April 12th Tue. 15.05 – Whernside, North Yorkshire – Mountain Rescue

The team were called by North Yorkshire Police to a member of a D of E party (f,17) trapped in a bog and sinking, on ‘Whernside, east of Deepdale’. CRO teams searched the area around their last known location, but had difficulty locating them due to poor visibility. Regular contact with the party by phone and assistance from Great North Air Ambulance which attempted to spot the party eventually led to the group being discovered east of Whernside Tarns. The girl was dug out of the bog, and she was warmed prior too being airlifted to hospital by an HM Coastguard Rescue helicopter (GNAA having to withdraw due to shortage of fuel). The rest of the party was escorted off the fell down to Ribblehead, and handed over to the expedition organisers. Volunteer hours: 152
