Following a particulary protracted rescue \;of an injured \;caver from \;Gingling Hole a meeting was held on 24th November 1934 by a number of senior caving clubs. They agreed to set up a cave rescue organisation based on Settle\; rescue wardens were appointed and liaison with the Police and St John's Ambulance established. The CRO became operational early in 1935\, the first volunteer cave rescue \;team in the country\, possibly the world. \;
