Following a particulary protracted rescue of an injured caver from Gingling Hole a meeting was held on 24th November 1934 by a number of senior caving clubs. They agreed to set up a cave rescue organisation based on Settle; rescue wardens were appointed and liaison with the Police and St John's Ambulance established. The CRO became operational early in 1935, the first volunteer cave rescue team in the country, possibly the world. |
CRO is celebrating its 75th Anniversary this year If you are a retired member, someone who the team has rescued or someone from another emergency service who worked with the team - we would like to hear from you and invite you to take part in our celebrations; further details of these events are given below.
